STPI started its full-fledged operations at Gandhinagar in 1996-97 with the objective of promotion and growth of IT/ITES/ESDM Industry. Established industry base increased from less than 10 companies in 1996 to about 191 by end of 2016-17 and the software exports grew from Rs. 4.75 Crore in 1995 to Rs. 2391.47 Crore in 2016-17.
Over the last decade, the initial focus was to encourage, nurture and support the small and medium and big companies undertaking software development activity and has provided excellent infrastructure and statutory support to the software export industry in the region.
STPI, Gandhinagar has started providing Data communication services in 1997 through the International gateway established in the center and providing best connectivity solutions on satellite and Fiber.
An integrated network service called "SoftNET" was designed and established in STPI with an objective of providing wide variety of value added services that are needed for software development and export operation giving importance to price/performance. SoftNET was the first in India to come up with the concept of Single Window request. This reduces the customer’s responsibility during the setting up of the service and subsequent maintenance and troubleshooting. Gandhinagar center having its own C-Band and Ku-Band satellite Earth station facility and OFC Termination Point and through its International Gateways offers a whole portfolio of services under SoftNET. SoftNET provides the following services:
SoftPOINT: International Private Leased Circuits (IPLCs)
SoftLINK: High speed Internet Access and Value Added Services
SoftCONF: Video Conferencing services
SoftMOF: Software Market, Opportunity and Technology Forecasting
